My Creative Girls

Megan and Melissa spent their day off of school doing fun creative projects.  Outside…  best place for spray paint and splatter paint.  I think being with Tammy for the weekend inspired us all to be creative.  These canvas’ will be so cute in their rooms.

DSC_9213 DSC_9214 DSC_9215  Megan has been watching you-tube videos as well getting creative ideas for her hair.  She and Melissa did this to their hair yesterday.DSC_9229

When they took it out it looked like this.  Cute girls.DSC_9232

Winter Please Go Away!

Got our hopes up with no snow since December…. a few mild days.  We even took a trip to Boise because the weather was so mild.  And then – this…

DSC_9221

DSC_9227We even had a snow day off from school! But it was soooo cold that the girls couldn’t stay outside playing for long.  Megan’s contacts started to freeze in her eyes!

Surprise Visitors

Came home from a stake  meeting on Saturday morning and got a call from Dad – just to say hello.  But then he had to hang up quickly and said he’d call me right back.  Then the doorbell rang and their they were!  Surprise!  The weather was nice and so they jumped in their car and drove 700 miles to visit us in Spokane.  Independent aren’t they?

They had to split their time between Carol’s and Diane’s and here.  But we got to enjoy a few dinners and afternoon and evenings with them.  They joined us for reading scriptures one night and for FHE one night.  I made Mom a rice bag to help keep her warm.  Her hands  are cold all the time.  It was fun to have them here.  They almost got stuck here with a big winter storm that came!  I guess it is still FEBRUARY!

Trip to Boise

President’s Day weekend and mild weather gave us the inspiration to travel to Boise for the weekend.  The girls went with, and in the spirit of independence – Katie and Andrew stayed home.  We hit snow in Oregon on the way down and were questioning our decision, but the roads home were fine.

It was so great to see Tammy and Toby again and hug those boys.  Wes is walking!  How fun for us to see him just starting to toddle around.  Dallas is talking up a storm.  Such a big boy.  I love love love my little grandsons.

Tammy and I did a craft together.  Why we didn’t take pics I don’t know.  The guys took the kids and we had fun on Sat am.  She gave me a Mr. Darcy “love” quote that she made with her cricket and cut the girls some things for their rooms.  It was so great to be with her and share girl time.  DSC_9208

Happy Valentine’s Day!

We’ve been busy making Valentine’s treats. Some chocolates last week and then last night we made some awesome roll out cookies. I am so excited to finally know how to get these cookies to look like this! ( I love April Wright’s cookies and was so sad when she moved. Just in passing at our Young Women’s presidency meeting, Christy Chamberlain told me how she does her frosting. Apparently she taught everyone in a RS homemaking meeting years ago. Where was I?)

So, I heated the frosting in a decorator bag and “flooded” it on the cookie after piping an outline to contain the hot frosting. It dries smooth and beautiful. We had so much fun doing these. I love cookies!

Next I think I’ll try the technique on little cakes.

DSC_8936 DSC_9059 DSC_9060 DSC_9062 DSC_9066 So we had a steak dinner for Valentine’s day and shared it with Mom and Dad who surprised us with a visit. It was fun to celebrate the day of love with some of the people I love the very most in my life!

Winter Formal

Katie went to Winter Formal this weekend.  She looked so beautiful.  We made her boutonnière thanks to Kathy Wilson who taught me how.  And we borrowed a gorgeous dress from Kelby Gummersall.  Katie did her own hair and it turned out so pretty.

She had a good time – just came home with blisters on her feet!  Notice her awesome shoes! She went with her good friends Breanna and Austin.  It was a fun night.

Awesome coupon shopping trip

So my friend Julie told me about an Albertson’s coupon deal.  She explain how to get tons of food for almost free with this $10.00 coupon deal.  I had Andrew help me with the math and we SCORED!  We got all this food for $13.50  Then we went back several times and really stocked up on spaghetti sauce, hot chocolate, soup, peanut butter and Mike’s favorite – Marie Calendar dinners.  We ended up spending $58 for $300 worth of food.  You just had to figure out how to spend $25 shelf value, but $10 out of pocket, then get a $10 coupon and do it again, using the coupon to pay and earning another coupon in the transaction.  My head hurt from thinking but we did good!DSC_8985

Super Bowl XLV – Here we go Steelers!

Can you believe we went to the SUPER BOWL again???  We had a great super bowl party and enjoyed cheering for our Steelers.  I spent the last 2 weeks worried about this game.  Too bad we had to experience losing… But only 2 teams got to even go so “no shame in our game.”  The kids get so much flack at school for being Steeler fans.  These Seahawk fans in Washington can not get over losing to us in Super Bowl XL.

We had fun making treats and decorating.  Our friends the Wards came over. Loved everything but the final score!

DSC_8944 DSC_8945 DSC_8948 DSC_8954 DSC_8963 DSC_8965 DSC_8967 DSC_8968 DSC_8978 DSC_9114  We’ll get them next year!  GO STEELERS!
