Eagle Project!

Andrew did his Eagle Project on Saturday!

He repainted the stripes in the parking lot at the church for his project.

It looks great and needed to be done.

It rained all day Friday but was beautiful weather on Saturday.

(Little mercies! It is back to raining today!)This is what the parking lot looked like before....

Harold Merkley is a great friend of ours and has an asphalt company. He donated his equipment, supplies, time and expertise to get this project done. I have always told Harold I have a soft spot for him because he reminds me so much of my brother Stephen. Just his smile and mannerisms. When I see him at church I have to hug him and tell him that he makes me smile!

He was badly burned last summer in a work fire/ something with gasoline. He spent a month in Harbor View Medical Center over in Seattle in the burn unit and we all were praying for him. Mike visited him when he was over for drill with the other Marines.

I told Harold my first thought was that with his burns he might not look like Stephen anymore....of course that was after my thought of "oh please let him be okay!"

Katie job was signing people in. She had to do something sitting because she is still on crutches.

We had to be creative when we moved Katie's sign-in spot. The Handy boys were willing to carry her. Melissa's job was handing out the donuts - she helped with the chalk lines too. She got community service for her Zenith project at school. Megan was at her soccer game that morning. She helped earlier with cleaning the parking lot - sweeping leaves with Mom and Melissa.

Some of the gang of helpers...Handy's are our hometeachers and good friends. They have been through this Eagle thing twice and were great helpers. Andrew was just helping Brent with his project a few weeks ago.

I had to keep the guys honest. They wanted to tip the wheelchair stencil to make it look like the guy was doing a wheelie. I mean really....do guys ever grow up?

The leaders are as bad as the scouts. Austin Daines is a great worker. These striping machines weigh about 200 pounds.

Next - doing the yellow lines. I should have counted how many there were. Both sides of the parking lot and both sides of the church. Lots of yellow stripes!

We have 2 merit badges left to complete and our time in getting short but

the big Eagle project is done!

Andrew is excited to get his driver's license too. That was the deal!
